After 10 years of service and leadership on the House Appropriations Committee, including positions on the Interior, Homeland Security, Energy and Water, and Legislative Branch Subcommittees, Congressman Zach Wamp was named the top "ranking" Republican on the Subcommittee on the Legislative Branch.
He is one of only 12 Republicans on the Committee who earned what is referred to as a "cardinal" position on the influential Committee.
"This is a unique opportunity to use my experience in real estate and oversight to work on the inner operations, the structures, and the preservation of the Capitol and surrounding area," Congressman Wamp said. "Being the top Republican on this panel is a chance to take the lead in a new way and on new issues."
The subcommittee on the Legislative Branch handles the important needs of the Capitol such as:
Funding the entire operation of Congress, including the various leadership offices and the office of the clerk
Funding the new 580,000 square foot Capitol Visitor's Center, which is projected to be completed within 15 months
Funding the Library of Congress, the world's premier repository of information
Funding the Capitol police, who have always been very important, but since 9\11, have been a critical part of our national security layered defense team, protecting the Capitol and the legislative branch from terrorist or other threats

"I am excited by the new challenges, and look forward to working with my Democratic counterpart, Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz on these very important issues."
In addition to this new role, Congressman Wamp will continue to serve on the subcommittee on Energy and Water, essential for programs in East Tennessee, such as the Chickamauga Lock in Chattanooga and the modernization of the facilities at the Y-12 Plant and the research missions at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, as the second most senior Republican.
